Yoga & Pilates For Beginners ~ Denver, Colorado
Here are some tips for yoga beginners:
Select A Type Of Yoga Or Pilates
Hot Yoga, Power Yoga, Iyengar Yoga, and Laughter Yoga are just a few of the different disciplines, so choose the yoga or Pilates you think you’d like. Some types of yoga are more physically challenging, while others are more quiet and meditative. Try different yoga classes (and even yoga studios) until you find a good fit.
Come Prepared To Your First Yoga Class
Once you’ve chosen a yoga studio or yoga class, find out whether mats are available for rent or whether you need to bring you own. Wear comfortable clothing that wicks away sweat and doesn’t restrict your breathing. Drink lots of water before and after your yoga session.
Be Patient With Yourself
Even if you’re physically fit, yoga poses might feel strange and uncomfortable at first, but with practice and repetition, they’ll become more natural. Flexibility won’t happen overnight, but it will happen. Don’t compare yourself to more advanced yoga students, just focus on your own yoga poses.
Respect Your Limits
A good yoga instructor can help adapt the yoga pose to each student’s capabilities, but don’t push to the point of strain or injury. Yoga isn’t about competition or quantity…it’s about inner peace and quality.
Beginner Yoga Poses
Beginner yoga poses include standing poses, seated poses, resting poses, balancing poses, and backbend poses. Some more common beginner poses include: Downward Facing Dog pose, Garland pose, Raised Hands pose, Easy pose, Head To Knee pose, Child’s pose, Legs Up The Wall pose, Bridge pose, Plank pose, and Tree pose.
Stick With It
Yoga is not only a form of exercise and meditation, but it’s also a lifestyle. Practice yoga daily or several times a week, in a yoga class, with a private yoga instructor, or on your own, and you’ll feel positive changes in your body, mind, spirit, and outlook.
