Kundalini Yoga Classes ~ Denver, Colorado

Sometimes referred to as Kriya Yoga, Kundalini Yoga is known as “the yoga of awareness.” This type of yoga practice is designed to arouse the “kundalini,” which is the limitless potential that exists within you. Kundalini Yoga is one of the more spiritual types of yoga, and it was introduced into the U.S. in the late 1960s by Yogi Bahan when he founded 3HO (happy, healthy, holy organization).

The achievement of Kundalini isn’t thought to be a physical occurrence, but rather a development of consciousness, with the results being pure joy, pure knowledge, and pure love. Through Kundalini Yoga, the untapped energy (prana) at the base of your spine can be drawn up to awaken each of your seven Chakras. When this energy reaches your Crown Chakra, full enlightenment will occur.

In a typical Kundalini Yoga class or session, a specific breath is tied to a pose, all with the intent of freeing the energy from your lower body and allowing it to move through your Chakras. The Kriyas (or Kundalini sequences) may include rapid, repetitive movements that match specific breaths.

Most Kundalini Yoga classes start with warm-up stretches and move on to a sequence of poses, meditation, and chanted mantras. Breathing, meditation, and chanting are the hallmarks of Kundalini Yoga.

Kundalini Yoga is a discipline closely associated with Hatha Yoga and Ashtanga Yoga.
