Vinyasa Yoga Classes ~ Denver, Colorado
Vinyasa Yoga, which is also known as Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga, is referred to as a linking yoga. Yoga poses are linked to one another, and movement is linked to breath. Also known as “breath-synchronized movement,” Vinyasa Yoga can feel like a dance, with the poses running together, and positions changing on inhales or exhales of breath.
Breath dictates not only the movement, but also the amount of time each pose is held. There’s also an emphasis on the transition between postures. Six specific sets of postures represent the practice of Vinyasa Yoga, and they’re always performed in the same order, with particular breathing patterns.
In a Vinyasa Yoga class, you can expect Sun Salutations, along with other positions, and movement (not just poses or stretching). Because the practice of Vinyasa Yoga is so varied, a Vinyasa Yoga class might be fast or slow and might or might not include chanting, depending on the style of the instructor. If you don’t enjoy your first Vinyasa Yoga class, don’t give up. Try at least one more, with a different teacher, to see if this type of yoga practice is right for you.
Both Ashtanga Yoga classes and Power Yoga classes often incorporate Vinyasa methods.
